Overview:
The CA01 Ground Half Coupling (GHC) is designed for actuation
of the VC02 Fill and Drain Valve.
The Ground Half Coupling can be used in conjunction with
either the High pressure VC02-006 valve or the VC02-007 which
has a softer seat and a stronger spring designed to operate
at lower pressures.
The Fill and Drain Valve which is operated in conjunction
with this Ground Half Coupling valve was originally developed
for aerospace application its first space application was
for use on SNAP. The Ground Half Coupling comes complete with
charging hose or solid tube. The Ground Half displaces the
sealing mechanism when it is mated/screwed onto the flight
half utilising the charge hose creating a flow path to permit
charging/venting. The external cap complete with a seal on
the external port provides a seal to vacuum.
The flight valve is operated by the use of a Ground Half
Coupling being screwed into the Flight Half Coupling. The
probe on the hose assembly passes through an ‘O’
ring, which provides the seal. The probe displaces the sealing
mechanism in the Flight Half creating a flow path permitting
charging/venting.
Once the charge hose is disconnected the sealing mechanism
returns to its original position under the force of a spring.
The secondary seal to vacuum is provided by a cap complete
with seal fitted to the external port.

Product History:
This component has been used (GSE only) on the SNAP and
DMC Alsat programmes. It is also scheduled for use on Nigeria
Sat, UK-DMC, BilSat and GSTB-v2 programmes.
